Hi there! We're Luke and Cat, and we're so happy you're here. We hope you'll stay a while! We’re a husband and wife wedding photographer team based in Houston, Texas. Ranchers-turned-photographers, our world looks like this: a Craftsman-style farmhouse; our newborn, Knox, in our arms; coffee in the kitchen; Edison lights on the back porch; and a pair of English bulldogs at the foot of our bed. Happy 1-Year Anniversary :: Katie and Drew!

Jun 25, 2013 / Weddings
We've missed a few anniversaries the past few months, but I'm back to my blog calendar and I'm happy to be sharing the news that one of our favorite couples celebrated their one-year anniversary this past weekend!

On this past Saturday morning, Luke and I were eating breakfast and drinking water (no, not coffee, as we've slacked off nowadays) and I said, "This time last year we were so excited for Katie and Drew's wedding that we got ready and went on in to Houston 2 hours early." That's true! The day of Katie and Drew's wedding, we were so excited it might as well have been Christmas morning.

Among a million other memories from their wedding day, here are a few of my favorites!

1. One of the most fun groups of people ever! It makes our job so much fun when we get to hang out with a wedding party that is just as excited to be at the wedding as we are. Katie and Drew's buddies were the bomb!

2. Amazing families. Both Katie and Drew come from really incredible families. It was so special for us to get to know everyone and understand the reason that Katie and Drew are both such caring people. This picture of Katie and her parents is our favorite family 'formal' (not formal, right!) ever!

3. These guys. It's hard to begin to explain, but Katie and Drew have become some of our best friends. It's so funny to me that K&D, some of our best friends now, originally just started out as names in an e-mail that they sent through the contact form on our website. I'm SO glad that we got to know this couple, I'm glad that our dogs have played with their dog, I'm glad that they tell me all the cool places in Austin so I'm not such a country bumpkin, I'm glad that I've had breakfast at their table cooked in Drew's favorite cast iron skillet. We love you guys!

Heather and Justin's Wedding :: Newgulf Clubhouse

Jun 4, 2013 / Weddings, Film
We are so excited to share Heather and Justin's wedding day with you all! This day will certainly go down as one of our most-favorite weddings we've ever had the privilege of photographing. These two lovebirds are two of the most genuinely nice, down to earth, and laid-back people we've ever got to be around. Their day was all about them - no bridesmaids, no fuss. It was definitely a day where everyone could feel the love!

This day was also special to us as we actually split the shooting exactly half between film and digital. Luke shot 100% film and I shot 100% digital. As you're looking through the day's images, see if you can tell which are film and which are digital. Sometimes even we get confused on them! I'll give you a hint... this first one of the beautiful bride is FILM.

Justin is probably the most polite guy I've gotten to be around in a while. He was so nice, not a bit nervous, and very excited to be saying "I do" to Heather.

We had about a 25 minute drive to the Newgulf Clubhouse for the reception, so Heather and Justin made their getaway in a vintage car. They couldn't have been any cuter if they tried.

I absolutely adore this reception venue - it's truly a hidden gem. The Newgulf Clubhouse has so much character and history. It's just the right size for intimate receptions and gatherings - it was truly perfect for this reception!

Heather has an eye for style. I loved her decisions she made about the decor. The flowers for the reception were all white, and the tables were antique tables with vintage lace tablecloths.

Love this idea! In addition to the bride's cake, they also had a table with homemade pies. Heather's family owns a wonderful restaurant that is famous for it's pies. Apple, lemon, cherry, and buttermilk pecan were the flavors of the day. I feel safe admitting this now: I had 2 pieces of dessert.

So Heather comes from a restaurant family... and guess what? So does Justin! Do you think they're going to have some great meals at their house, or what?

The ruffles on this cake, baked by Heather's aunt, were gorgeous.

As the sun set, we headed outside for the bride and groom's portraits. The next couple of minutes with Heather and Justin resulted in some of our absolute favorite portraits we've ever shot.

Their first dance was to "As Long As I'm Rockin' With You" by John Conlee. It was spectacular! I say that because I, too, am a big John Conlee fan. I was singing along until Luke caught my eye and gave me a look that pretty much said, "You better stop, you look like an idiot." Thanks for the heads up! :)

Right at dusk they made their sparkler exit...

...and they lived happily ever after. Or at least that's my best guess :)

Heather and Justin, how are we ever going to top your day? I doubt we ever will! You guys were so much fun to work with and you made our job supremely easy - mainly because of your genuine love for each other. We just got to sit back and photograph the magic! Thank you for letting us work with you on this important day! We wish you a lifetime of love and happiness, and more laughs than you can handle!

A Few of Our Favorite Things :: Heirlooms

May 23, 2013 / Weddings
Today we had an impromptu photo shoot with some of our favorite things... peonies, vintage cameras (which we collect), air plants, and our favorite wedding products: albums and folio boxes!

We just switched our folio boxes (which is a product we offer to our brides and grooms) to these beautiful natural linen boxes.

The boxes are embossed with our logo... because everything is better personalized!

When you open the box, inside are 10 artist-choice (meaning our favorite) images that are signed and numbered and in mats. If I took the picture (like the one here) I sign it, and if Luke took the picture, he signs it. You lift the ribbon out of the box and out comes the set of 10.

This particular folio box we have here is from Katie and Drew's wedding from last summer. This is still one of our all time favorite photos of Katie and her parents!

We also brought out our albums for some pictures, because our love affair with the albums is still going strong. There's nothing I love more than getting a wedding album in, packing it up, and shipping it out. In that moment, I know that a family heirloom just left our home and headed out to be a part of a new family's history.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Print out your photos. Your great-grandkids won't want to look through iPhones or 'cloud storage' to find photos of the people who came before them. :)
