Smell Good Stuff

Aug 26, 2013 / Our Life, Makeup Mondays
Fragrance is right up there with makeup for me, in terms of 'loves.'

I wanted to share some of my favorites with you! :)

My number one favorite for the past few years is Viktor & Rolf's Flowerbomb. It's bright, floral, and long wearing. I fell in love with this perfume the first time it was offered to me as a sample several years ago. I went through 2 bottles, then decided to try something else for a while. After I was done with that bottle, it was back to Flowerbomb for me. I think this is a lifelong kind of thing for me!
The perfume I mentioned above that I tried in between going back to Flowerbomb was Jimmy Choo by Jimmy Choo. It smells similar to Flowerbomb but a little less strong. It's a great perfume too!

I feel like I should also mention the first perfume that I ever fell in love with, Narciso Rodriguez For Her. Even though I don't wear this perfume nowadays, occasionally I will pass someone and get a whiff of the fragrance and my heart aches a little for it.

In other news, super-fun congratulations go out to Rachel McCloud for winning Friday's blog giveaway of the gold foil print. Yippee!

Makeup Monday #19 :: Eyeshadow Brushes

Aug 12, 2013 / Makeup Mondays
As you might have noticed, Makeup Monday's have been missing a few times. I'm currently buying plenty of makeup so I'll be able to do these more frequently! :) But we do have a Makeup Monday this week!

Eyeshadow application is very important to the entire look of your makeup. If you don't believe me, notice how many pins on Pinterest are eyeshadow application related.

For me, putting on my eyeshadow is easy because I have the right tools. I don't know why they include those little white sponge sticks with eyeshadow, because they are pretty much worthless! I believe you need 3 brushes for your eyeshadow.

1) A medium sized brush for your lightest shadow (but not your highlighter) that is going to go all over your lid from lashline to browbone. For this, I would suggest heading to the nearest drugstore and picking up a brush that they title, appropriately, "eyeshadow brush." This brush doesn't do any detail work so there's no need to splurge! Here's a good one for $4.

2) A crease brush. This brush will be smaller than the previous brush and it will be used to put a darker shade in your crease. If you're like me, you'll want to use the same brush to dab an even darker shade on the outer corner of your eye. This is where you need to spend some money because the key to having your eyeshadow look great happens in this step, and you can't get it right without a good tool: blending, blending, blending! This is the brush I use for this job!

3) A small brush for highlighting under your browbone and inner corners. You probably don't have to have a new brush for this, but I have found that since the color difference is so dramatic between the highlight and other colors that you will want a special brush reserved for it. This is the brush I use, and I like it because it is a stiffer brush and therefore, more precise.

Makeup Mondays #18 :: Everyday Makeup

Jun 24, 2013 / Makeup Mondays
Today I'm sharing my 'everyday' makeup. The main thing that makes this 'everyday' makeup is that I'm pretty quick about it, I do not pencil my eyebrows in, and I use a dark brown pencil eyeliner instead of my normal black liquid eyeliner.

Even though it is 'everyday' makeup, I still believe I need to have my actual face looking good - meaning I'll still pay special attention to my foundation, bronzer, blush, and highlighter. The part I rush through is my eyeshadow.

EYESHADOW STEPS:

First, I put a light shimmery shadow on from lashline to browbone (meaning covering my entire eyeshadow area.) I use Urban Decay's eyeshadow in Virgin.

Next, I put a shimmery light brown shadow in my crease, concentrating on the outer corners of my eye. I blend that dark color in almost up to my brow bone. The shimmery light brown I'm using now is from my Dior Smoky Nude palette.

Finally, I take my shimmery white eyeshadow and brush it right under my browbone and the inner corners of my eyes to brighten my eyes (as seen in previous Makeup Monday pos!) The shade is Maybelline Expert Wear in Vanilla.

How many times can a person say shimmery in one blog post? LOL
