Hi there! We're Luke and Cat, and we're so happy you're here. We hope you'll stay a while! We’re a husband and wife wedding photographer team based in Houston, Texas. Ranchers-turned-photographers, our world looks like this: a Craftsman-style farmhouse; our newborn, Knox, in our arms; coffee in the kitchen; Edison lights on the back porch; and a pair of English bulldogs at the foot of our bed. Fight or Flight!

Jun 7, 2012 / Our Life

A few days ago, Cat and I were out shooting, and I was trying to show someone where to stand. I leaned against this big sweeping tree branch and that is when Haley said "There is a snake!"

Lets back up the bus a little bit. I (Luke) am horrified of all things snake! I mean I scream like a little sissy when I see one of TV and get goosebumps. Hailing from Indiana, we don't have to worry about snakes too much, since the kind up there don't pose a threat to your life. However, down here along the Texas Gulf Coast, we have things like Coral Snakes that will mess you up!

So, when I heard Haley say "Sna..." I knew I was about to die. I also came to the conclusion that my fight or flight mechanism is faulty. If I had to guess, I would have envisioned me high-steppin' out of there like a Tennessee Walking Horse screaming the whole way, while a certain liquid ran down my leg!

Instead, my upper body lurched forward, while I can only guess that my legs were frozen with fear. They did not move. So I looked like one of those inflatable dancing "men" that you find on a car sales lot when they are having a sale. You know the type. My top half was flailing and my bottom half was stationary.

Also, for reasons unbeknownst to me, I said "No there isn't" in the middle of my dance. I guess that I thought our client would lie to me about the proximity of a snake. Some sick form of fun.

In the middle of my elaborate dance routine, that could have dwarfed Black Swan, I heard the word "skin!"

Haley had said "There is a snake skin!"

That is what was two feet from my skull. The left over remnants from a now bigger snake, that I could only assume was in the branches over my head.

We quickly moved locations and I lived to see another day. Barely!
In other news, our home renovations are almost complete (three weeks later) and we will be posting about that soon!
