Hi there! We're Luke and Cat, and we're so happy you're here. We hope you'll stay a while! We’re a husband and wife wedding photographer team based in Houston, Texas. Ranchers-turned-photographers, our world looks like this: a Craftsman-style farmhouse; our newborn, Knox, in our arms; coffee in the kitchen; Edison lights on the back porch; and a pair of English bulldogs at the foot of our bed. Fun with the Family

Nov 15, 2012 / Our Life, Film
Earlier this fall we took a trip to Indiana to visit our family up there. Luke is originally from Indiana and one of the biggest perks of our job and of being self employed is that we have the freedom to go and visit our family there anytime we get a break in our schedule. We made a pact for this trip that any pictures we took on the trip (aside from iPhone pictures, OF COURSE!) were going to be with the film camera.

We finally got around to sending our film from the trip to Richards Photo Lab in California, and just got the film scans back this week. With our film scans, we've also decided to get actual proof prints back with our scans, so... now, guess what we're going to do! Have actual PRINTS of these pictures to keep as memories.

These pictures were from a lazy Sunday afternoon out at Luke's sister and brother-in-law's farm. Luke and I had been into the "city" that morning for church and had a big lunch at Outback (my favorite croutons and ranch dressing ever) and then we headed home to change clothes and get ready for an afternoon of fun with the kiddos. We're blessed with several nieces and a nephew in our life, but these two little girls are the star of the farm and bring so much joy to our life. I am thankful for these pictures of us!

They have chickens. Luke is so jealous.

It was cold, and it was a jammie day for them. I wasn't even aware that there was a term called "jammie day" until my amazing sister-in-law Cassie taught me about it. How cute are these kiddos! This one's going on the fridge!

We're really loving our film camera. If you're a photographer and you're kinda thinking about getting into film photography but are intimidated, we say GO FOR IT. If you know how to work your digital camera and are shooting in manual and consistently getting proper exposures, then shooting a film camera isn't that different. It's so much fun.

The worst part of it all is the wait to get your scans back. But the best part is, you get them back and they are ready to go - no editing (if you shoot it right.) On our slow internet the time it takes to download the scans (about 1 hour per roll) is also lame. But again - it's worth it!

Southern Jewlz Fall Editorial Shoot

Oct 1, 2012 / Our Life
A few weeks ago, we met up with an amazing creative team and shot the Southern Jewlz Fall 2012 fashion line. We absolutely love and look forward to any opportunity we get to collaborate with this group of talented individuals. This is the third major editorial shoot we've done for Southern Jewlz and we are so excited to share these images with you.

It's been really fun to watch the fashions of Southern Jewlz evolve, even in the short year that we've been photographing them. Lots of people know about Southern Jewlz, but what you might not know is that the owner, Randa Yezak, started this now-thriving business in her own college living room. Here we are, years later, and Southern Jewlz is a household name (at least in our area of Texas it is) and the once-living-room-bound business now has a boutique in College Station and an online storefront as well. Not to mention the 25,000+ Facebook fans.

While I originally met Randa mainly because she went to college with Luke, as time has gone on, I feel like we're in this together. We both started our businesses around the same time and there have been countless phone calls and e-mails bouncing ideas back and forth, and sharing both the happy times and the growing pains of entrepreneurship.

So, without further adieu, we are excited to share the Southern Jewlz Fall 2012 Lookbook. We couldn't be more proud to be the photographer for this exciting shoot! Thank you Randa, and we can't wait to work with you again for the Spring line!

Relaxing in the fall air

Sep 28, 2012 / Our Life

We just reached our halfway point of our fall vacation, and it is going too quick!

As we drove north from Texas, we could see the signs of fall all around us. The temperatures were steadily getting cooler, the leaves were getting hues of oranges and yellows, and somehow, the air even smelled like fall.

I used to think that winter was my favorite season, and in fact, it really was when I was younger. The canceled school due to blizzards, slipping on the ice, putting out straw for the cattle to bed down on, these were all things that I loved! Well, I still love those things, however, it now seems that fall (or is it Fall?! I am horrible with punctuation) is getting a bigger spot in my heart.

When Cat and I are in Indiana, we stay at my parents house in their furnished basement. It really is like an apartment. We have a kitchen, laundry, bathroom, bedroom, living room, etc., you get the picture. Anyhoo, I was walking up the stairs to the "main" level of the house and when I opened the door, it hit me! All of the windows were opened, letting a fresh cool breeze sweep through the house. My mom had scented candle warmers, filled with fall-ish scents, that mixed with the crisp cool air to create a heavenly aroma. Cinnamon rolls were rising on top of the stove for breakfast. The dappled sunlight was filtering through the turning leaves creating a warm glow.

Does it get better than that? I wish that I could relive that moment over and over again. It was magical!

Then again, last night, I was taking the pups out to do their duties. The sun had set, and the night air was calm. As I walked by the pool, like I had done so many times before, I noticed the full moon reflecting in the crystal clear water. With fallen leaves floating on the water, I just stared at the reflection of the moon. I was tempted to just jump in, but I chickened out!

Another sure sign of fall in Indiana is when farmers start harvesting their fields. It's also a sign that school is starting, but luckily, I don't have to worry about that anymore!

I know that fall is starting to make its way south, and hopefully by the time we get back, it will have reached Texas, but until then we are going to soak up every bit that we can!
