Hi there! We're Luke and Cat, and we're so happy you're here. We hope you'll stay a while! We’re a husband and wife wedding photographer team based in Houston, Texas. Ranchers-turned-photographers, our world looks like this: a Craftsman-style farmhouse; our newborn, Knox, in our arms; coffee in the kitchen; Edison lights on the back porch; and a pair of English bulldogs at the foot of our bed. Our Yearly Summer Trip to Indiana

Aug 20, 2013 / Our Life
Every year at the end of summer we take a trip to Indiana to spend time with Luke's family. Usually we drive and take Wilma and Hudson with us, but this year we decided to skip the 6 days of driving (round trip) and hop on the big bird and fly.

Last week we took our yearly voyage and we had a great time!

It was a week full of fun and family time. It seems like every night we all ended up sitting in Luke's parents' living room with all the 'grown ups' laid out snoring and the kiddos playing legos or fighting over who got to play on 'Mimi and Paw's' iPad. I love those memories! :)

We traveled sans-cameras last week and we don't have cell service up there, so even our Instagram's were a little sparse! But here are a few of our favorites!

I love this photo of me and our nieces, Hunter and Sophie! Hunter started 4th Grade this week and Sophie started 1st Grade.

Luke and Hunter look happy here, but about three minutes after this photo was taken they were in a full-blown jujitsu match! The girls are studying jujitsu and are a real force to be reckoned with!

One night the family entrusted Luke and I with the girls' care. After serving as judges for an impromptu Indiana version of the summer Olympics that included such events as Who Can Scream The Loudest Underwater, Who Can Do The Longest Dead Mans' Float, and Who Can Do The Most Graceful Walk Off The Diving Board, Luke and I ended up clients at the girls' Beauty Shop.

We also took the girls bowling one day!
We didn't venture too far away from the tiny town Luke grew up in, but when we did go to the city one day, we were so happy to get to see our friends, Indianapolis wedding photographers Cory and Jackie, who cooked us a delicious meal at their new house and let us spend way too much time visiting!

Now it's back to the Texas heat and back to work! :)

Polaroids from the Beach

Aug 8, 2013 / Our Life, Film

This past weekend, some of our good friends invited us down to their beach house for a weekend getaway. It is pretty safe to say that we're crossing our fingers that they had as great of a time as we did and that we'll be taking more trips down there. We took pictures on our Polaroid Land Camera while we were there. We're loving this old camera!

And one non-Polaroid below. For sunsets, you can't beat an iPhone!

Perks of photographing another photographer's wedding.

Aug 7, 2013 / Our Life
About a month ago we had the unforgettable experience of flying to historic Cheyenne, Wyoming to photograph Kassi and Ian's wedding. Kassi is a photographer herself, so she really spoiled us rotten and gave us plenty of time for portraits of the two of them.

On our second round of portraits (meaning we had already taken 1 round of portraits earlier in the day) Ian drove to the famous Cheyenne Frontier Days arena. In a once-in-a-lifetime moment for us, we got to take Kassi and Ian's photo in this huge outdoor rodeo arena, which is truly sacred to cowboys! As we walked around the arena, Kassi and Ian told us all about how the Garth Brooks song, Beaches of Cheyenne, is actually about the arena.

I'm not a rodeo person myself, but I come from a rodeo family, so it was an awesome experience for me. On the drive back to the reception, I had to call my grandma and tell her about the exciting moment I had just had. She then informed me that my uncle, Terry Powell, had won a round in the calf roping one year at Cheyenne, and she was sitting in those very grandstands herself. Love that!

Kassi and Ian's photos are coming up... but in the meantime, let me share one of the big perks of being a photographer hired to photograph another photographers wedding. Besides the fact that it is such an honor... the added benefit for us was that Kassi was able to take OUR picture at the arena too. Thank you Kassi for snagging this moment we will never forget! You look pretty good in that wedding dress with the camera! :)

Glad we got to share these memories with you!
